Sadly, women are too often defined by the men who dominate them. I'm trying to get the conviction of Florence Maybrick quashed: she was sentenced to death for murdering her husband, on the say-so of his brother. This was commuted to penal servitude for life because there was insufficient evidence that he HAD been murdered. When the need for a Criminal Court of Appeal was being considered, hers was one ot the cases reviewed. It's a clear example of miscarriage of justice, but her conviction still stands. However, most people are not interested until they learn of the allegation that either her husband or brother-in-law was Jack the Ripper.

Dirty? No. Sometimes a little sick and bewildered by depravity; feeling is squared when children or the weak or innocent are the victims

Don’t feel guilty for investigating. Hallie Rubenhold spoke for the victims in _The Five_. I think speaking for the victims is the greatest goal of true crime writing or reporting.

Thanks Lucy, as others have said like you so succintly, you, Ros and your guests play a vital role in setting the records of these ladies straight. Your careful, honest and empathic study not only puts things into context and addresses the wider aspects, but also ensures that in doing so their lives and experiences are remembered as individuals not just statistics or a newspaper headline. So thank you.

I have a female friend who I occasionally watch some true crime with. The only thing that ends up dirty is my hands from the snacks we inevitably devour

I was thinking about sins written in the Bible thousands of years ago.

Building of the golden calf Ex32. 3,000 people had to die.

Achan who his spoils in his tent - jos7. He was stoned to death.

David who committed adultery with Bathsheba - the baby died as a punishment. But David walked with God so did not die.

Then we have Judas Iscariot - who handed Jesus over and hung himself on a tree.

Ananias and Sapphira who held back some of the money they promised to God in Acts 5. They both fell down dead.

I think Lucy's Lady Killers and lady Swindlers stories are no worse than these stories. We think nothing about being warned of these people's sins being wrong. Lucy put us all straight on Agatha Christie with the episode in Harrogate including the fugue state. So she hates information not being right.

With the boys in the Tower Lucy did not think it would be right to test their DNA for humane reasons. So she is considerate to the dead! And a true historian!

I realised Jesus and John the Baptist mission to preach repentance of sins and baptism we never hear of any of the sins. Jesus mercy and grace. Just criticism of the religious leaders.
