I watched the episode on Jack the Ripper with great interest. Finally, a focus on something other than the grizzly details of the murders and all the speculation on who might’ve done it. I thought the emphasis on the evolution of reporting of crime by the press and but especially on the circumstances of poor women in Victorian London a much needed corrective to the usual narrative.
Really enjoyed both this 'Ghosting' article and Jack The Ripper. As others have said you and colleagues provided a much needed, balanced look at the sensationalism and, even more often ignored, the male-dominated society's attitude to the poor elements: especially if female! But as you showed, has the 21st century really moved on in terms of balanced, non-sensationalist reporting?
I am so pleased to be on your Newsletter list. I am a 'fan' of your work and it's great o be able to get a 'Lucyfix' on a weekly basis! Your 'Investigates' series are top notch TV and so interesting! Will your PBS releases be available to buy in the UK? Thanks for all you do!
I loved the Jack the Ripper episode and especially seeing the famous Ripper letter. I always believed it fake but what an iconic name to give to the killer. I liked the focus on the victims and how the press reported back then. It was a short fall into poverty for these unfortunate ladies.
I "virtually" watched the episode with my sister, and we really enjoyed your perspective on the way the victims were perceived, as well as the press and their role. We both liked the way you took us on a tour of WhiteChapel and the various sites. We can't wait for next week's episode!
When I was 7/8 at school we had to sit through a radio program where they had a seance on. The voice of the woman was terrifying. None of us really knew what we were listening too. Afterwards I started running home from school and seeing spirits and ghosts in the alleyways, people's gardens etc. The churchyard became a place full of spooky ghosts rather than the bones of people's beloved family. I think we were too young and this is called necromancy and totally against the bible. If was a cofe school.
I started going to church aged 13. And joined a Holy Spirit church in my 20's. This is full of the fruits of the holy spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control.
I think the spiritualist are full of dark shadows and operate by fear rather than love. Deception of the enemy in our minds too!
The witch of Endor called up Samuel in the old testament for Saul but Saul lost his kingdom as God was unpleased.
In the new testament in the story of Lazarus and the rich man - the rich man wanted to go back and warm his brother's of his help but God would not let him. The rich man was the other side of the chasm.
This is the kind of history I have read until I started reading some other history recently.
You can read the Bible with Nicky and Pippa. Bible in a year if interested.
Hi Lucy! I’m very happy to be supporting your new venture and am enjoying all the content so far. (Other than finding out you met Tom Hiddleston. That makes me a little jealous. LOL) Can you or anyone in this thread tell me what U.S. outlets are showing the new season of Lucy Worsley Investigates? Thanks!
Hi Barbara; I live in the US as well, and you can see "Investigates" on PBS. The current episodes are available to stream on PBS, and if you don't already have a subscription to "passport" I highly recommend!

Loving your latest Investigates series. So refreshing to challenge the clichĂ©d stories about Queen Mary (had to resist calling her ‘bloody’ then) and showing how terribly the ‘Ripper’s’ victims were treated even in death. Quick question for you: which fountain pen are you using in the series? I have pen envy :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the episode about Jack the Ripper. As usual Lucy taught me something I did not know. Thank you Lucy
