Thank you for this account Lucy, a wonderful complementary insight to support your brilliant TV programme. You were superb in giving the French specialists full voice while including lovely insights of your own. I so look forward to seeing the restored edifice this autumn in your company along with Katherine and Brad.
This was such an inspiring programme. The skills learnt and found to save this gem. Also how good were those 800 years ago?! Without computers or heavy machinery. Well done all involved.
Notre Dame was always a stop on my visits to Paris over the last sixty years and it is killing me that I haven't been to the restored cathedral yet. (I injured my back tumbling over a threshold at the Budapest opera house last October and haven't yet been restored to traveling mode). I am glad that I can enjoy travel experiences vicariously through your reports! Also... just finished reading your book: If Walls Could Talk which made me very grateful to have been born in the 20th century....
I have just finished watching your program. You have really shown what a lot of talent, skill and hard manual work went into Notre Dame. The sheer accuracy and precision that was needed and how the men were delighted to have played a part in the rebuilding of this great Cathedral. How heavy the large stone must have been to cut and carry.
Reminds of how Solomon built the Temple to God. Before that in the Bible of how they built the tabernacle and ark of the Covenant for God.
I am sure you have made a wonderful job of recording what went into the rebuilding of Notre Dame.
Excellent show. It was exciting to see the details done within the time period Micron promised. I love the spray mist sprinkler system and infrared fire detection.
Watched your very interesting program on the Beeb. Loved the more tech stuff and how they did it sort of thing.
Never seen a program about how castles were built. Wonder if that could be a subject for a future program.
Who knew that Basil Fawlty had a french twin brother!

Quite appropriate Notre Dame on Easter weekend!
