Lady Killers is back!

The gigantic news is out. We return to BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds this week.

Our all-female team of detectives are once again turning their attention to women who kill, to examine how they did it but importantly why they did it...

I think this was our most exciting series yet. Our cases thrilled, moved and enraged me, and what a range of distinguished, expert and articulate women we have on our team! Almost every single day I run into a listener somewhere who tells me how much our show means to them, both to learn about women’s lives in the past, and as a showcase for female expertise. It makes my stony old heart burst with pride!

In this all new series, we will follow the cases of a female who rivalled Jack the Ripper in the brutality, a Body Snatcher in 1830s Aldgate, a woman accused of killing her mother in Shropshire and the tragic tale of an abused wife whose life inspired a classic English novel Tess of the d’Ubervilles.

We also travel to Pennsylvania to cover the case of an enslaved woman enacting lethal resistance against the children of her enslavers. And for the first time we tackle a Lady Killer in My Family investigating a murder-suicide in Surrey that hits home for a listener who has brought us the case of her great-great Aunts.

I hope you’re going to enjoy! It’s on Radio 4 in the UK at 3pm on Tuesday afternoons for the next ten weeks, it’s ALL on BBC Sounds from Tuesday, and outside the UK you’ll be able to get each new episode weekly wherever you get your podcasts.
